Hi, I’m Ouray Chastain, owner and operator of Mustard Seed Wood Transformations, a one-man portable sawmill service based in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

I run a Norwood HD36v2 manual mill, specializing in on-site milling, oversized logs, and custom cuts. I serve landowners, woodworkers, builders, and anyone looking to turn raw material into meaningful lumber.

I work with a lot of urban and storm-downed trees, and yes—sometimes that means embedded metal. While many mills avoid those risks, I see things differently. Even if a blade gets damaged, the value of transforming that tree into something usable and beautiful is still worth it. A buried nail doesn’t scare me off—it’s just part of the story the wood tells.

As a member of the Urban Wood Network, I believe in making the most of every tree. My goal is to contribute to the overarching wood economy—one that values sustainability, craftsmanship, and the full potential of each log.
